INFORMATION ON THE CHANGE IN LEGISLATION IN THE APPLICATION OF CUSTOMS DUTY

The new legislative modification was enacted by the Decree modifying the Decree on the Implementation of Additional Customs Duty on Imports (“Decree”), which was numbered 32570 and published in the Official Gazette on June 8, 2024.

1.  The Decree on the Implementation of Additional Customs Duty on Imports, which was enacted by the Presidential Decree dated December 31, 2020, and numbered 3351, has been changed by adding new lines and footnotes to the Annex-1 table.

2.   With the amendment made to the Decree, it has been decided to apply an additional tax of 40% for each vehicle to be imported from the People's Republic of China. If the amount acquired as a result of the 40% rate is less than USD 7,000, a tax of USD 7,000 per car will be applied directly, regardless of the 40% rate. In this case, a minimum additional tax of USD 7,000 per vehicle will be paid.

3.  Thus, the customs duty rate, which is currently 10% for imported vehicles, has increased to 50% with the additional duty for vehicles to be imported from the People's Republic of China.

4.   This amendment shall enter into force on the thirtieth day following the date of publication of the decision.
